What Mood Swings?
A mood swing is an extreme or rapid change in mood.
Symptoms
• upon waking up in the morning, you may feel excited and positive about the day ahead
• suddenly feeling depressed
• feeling tense and aggravated
• feelings of aggression
• feeling restless and bored with work
• being short and distant from his family or friends
• every day seems like a rollercoaster
Causes
Mood swings are commonly associated with mood disorders including bipolar disorder (manic depression) and
depression. Another major factor in mood swings can be hyperactivity or hyperactivity/inattentiveness as is sometimes
seen in ADHD. More commonly mood swings can be a result of dealing with daily life.
Other causes of mood swings are due to hormonal changes that can temporarily upset brain chemistry. As the
hormones involved normalize, these mood swings generally subside on their own.
While it is difficult to pinpoint one specific cause of mood swings, researchers have proposed several options,
including chemical imbalances and hormonal changes.
